Doors add extra protection from driving rain and keep your stack neatly out of sight. If you are storing seasoned logs, keep the doors closed. If you are seasoning your own wood, leave them open through the summer so moisture can escape.

Why Dry Firewood Matters

Dry, seasoned firewood burns hotter and cleaner than wet wood. In England, wood sold in quantities under 2m³ must have a moisture content of 20% or less so it is ready to burn. If you buy larger loads or cut your own, a wooden log store gives that wood a covered place to finish drying.

For the best results, stack logs in neat rows rather than tipping them in. Rows let air move through the stack so the wood dries evenly, and a tidy stack is easier and safer to take from

It depends on how often you burn. For occasional fires, a smaller model such as the Coppice is usually enough. If wood heats your home, a larger log store such as the Ashmore or Acorn holds more fuel between deliveries. Each comes in three lengths, so you can fine-tune the capacity.
